What does a dedicated cancer centre do that a general hospital does not?

A cancer centre puts surgical, medical and radiation oncology in one place and makes them plan together. At BLK-Max Hospital in Delhi, the practical differences are an organ-specific OPD, where the oncologist assessing you treats only your type of cancer, and a tumour board that reviews complex cases before a plan is finalised. In a general hospital, these specialists are often consulted one after another, and the patient carries information between them.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring all imaging as films or CDs rather than only the printed reports, your biopsy report and slides if a biopsy has been done, any previous discharge summaries, and a current list of medicines including doses. The oncologist can usually reach a staging opinion in one visit if these are available, and cannot if they are not.

Can I get a second opinion on a diagnosis made elsewhere?

Yes, and it is a normal thing to ask for. Our oncologists will review your scans, biopsy report and treatment plan and tell you whether they would recommend the same approach. Bring the original imaging and slides rather than reports alone. You can request a second opinion online or by phone.

Does BLK-Max treat patients travelling from outside Delhi?

Yes, the Cancer Centre treats patients from across North India, and the "Know Cancer – No Cancer" outreach programme covers Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. If you are travelling, send or bring your imaging and biopsy slides so that as much as possible can be planned before you arrive.
