Paediatric Nephrology Services provides an array of non-invasive, minimally invasive, and surgical procedures for treating renal abnormalities in children. Some of the major treatment services available include:
- Expert evaluation of kidney diseases:
- Nephrotic Syndrome
- CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease)
- Hematuria
- UTI (Urinary Tract Infections)
- Hypertension
- Ultrasound Guided Kidney Biopsy - It is a minimally invasive procedure done under sedation without general anaesthesia. Ultrasound is used to generate pictures of the inside of the body using sound waves. It is a painless diagnostic technique that neither hurts the body nor involves the use of radiation.
- Haemodialysis - Haemodialysis, like a kidney, is a treatment used to filter the waste and water from a human’s body. It is an artificial way of cleaning the blood by removing the toxins. When a person suffers from chronic or acute chronic renal failure than “Dialysis,” is used to perform the functions of the kidney.
- Haemodiafiltration - A haemodiafiteration is a form of renal replacement therapy that is used as a blood purification method. It works by utilising a convective-type driving force in combination with diffusional-type, which is used in standard haemodialysis. When compared to standard haemodialysis HDF removes more middle-molecular-weight solutes. HDF tends to provide
- Improved clinical outcomes
- Adequate convection volumes
- Increases the clearance of larger toxins
- Sustained Low-Efficiency Daily Dialysis (SLEDD) - SLEDD is an increasingly popular renal replacement therapy for the treatment of acute kidney illness. It is primarily used for intensive care unit (ICU) patients. It benefits the patient by providing good solute control and haemodynamic stability.SLEDD has evolved as a conceptual and technical hybrid of Intermittent Haemodialysis (IHD) and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT). It holds a therapeutic aim that combines the desirable properties of each of these component modalities.
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) - CRRT is a slow and continuous extracorporeal blood purification therapy that is commonly used to treat critically ill patients with acute kidney injury. It is a dialysis treatment that provides renal support to patients who are haemodynamically unstable as a continuous 24 hour per day therapy.
- CRRT helps by mimicking the functions of the kidneys. It purifies the blood by regulating water, electrolytes, and toxic products through the continuous slow removal of solutes and fluid. It is usually indicated to the patients who meet the criteria for haemodialysis therapy but cannot tolerate conventional intermittent haemodialysis (IHD) due to hemodynamic instability.
- Plasmapheresis - It is a medical procedure designed to remove some plasma from the blood for a process of plasma exchange (where unhealthy plasma is swapped with healthy plasma). The need for plasmapheresis arises to treat some kidney conditions such as Good pasture syndrome, a disease that causes antibodies to attack the kidneys and lungs.
- Manual and automated peritoneal dialysis - It is a type of peritoneal dialysis that involves the use of a peritoneal catheter and same peritoneal cavity for cleansing of the blood. Also known as Continuous Cyclic Peritoneal Dialysis (CCPD) the dialysis comes with a machine that is programmed to control the flow of fluid that goes in and out and the frequency of the process, using a series of clamps and pumps.
