Paediatric Gastroenterology & Hepatology Treatment in Delhi

Our Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit at BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital specialises in providing comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for infants, children and adolescents with diseases of the digestive tract and liver. Children and adolescents are in a growing phase of life so their body needs and diseases are different from adults, which require specialised care. The evaluation and treatment procedure for various gastrointestinal and liver problems in children totally differs from that of adults. Thus, children and adolescents need to be evaluated and treated in a specialised centre by a Paediatric Gastroenterologist.

The unit offers a complete service of diagnostic and endoscopic practice, including liver transplantation in the paediatric age group. We use the latest paediatric non-surgical/surgical endoscopic techniques and state-of-the-art facilities to treat disorders related to the Stomach, Intestines, Colon, Liver, Pancreas, and Nutrition.

What are the services provided at Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit?

The Unit has top-end Paediatric Endoscopy services which include:

  • Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy- It is a diagnostic & therapeutic procedure used by the doctor to see inside the lining of your upper GI tract of the patient (Neonatal & Paediatric), using a flexible tube with a camera known as an endoscope. It is used to diagnose and, sometimes, treat conditions that affect the upper part of your digestive system.
  • Colonoscopy (Argon Laser Coagulation)- A colonoscopy (koe-lun-OS-kuh-pee) is an endoscopic procedure performed by the doctors over the patient to detect changes or abnormalities in the large intestine (colon) and rectum. A long, flexible tube known as colonoscope having a tiny video camera at the tip of it is inserted into the rectum. The camera allows the doctor to view the inside of the entire colon and help on detecting abnormalities and also treat many diseases like removal of Polyps, etc.
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)- It is a specialised diagnostic & therapeutic technique used to study and treat problems of the liver, pancreas and occasionally of the gallbladder such as blockages (strictures), stones and other problems. It is performed using sedative that is injected into the veins. Since the complexity and length of the procedure are more as compared to other endoscopic procedures therefore, the level of sedation is deeper.
  • Capsule Endoscopy- Capsule endoscopy is a procedure that involves the use of a tiny wireless camera and helps doctors to see inside your small intestine. The capsule endoscopy camera is very small and sits inside a vitamin-sized capsule you swallow. The camera travels through your digestive tract taking thousands of photos, which are transmitted to the recorder you wear on a belt around your waist. The doctor then analysis these pictures for identifying the abnormality in your digestive tract.
  • Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)- Endoscopic Ultrasound is a procedure performed using an endoscope that has an ultrasound probe attached to it. This procedure helps the doctor to detect various kinds of diseases related to the liver, pancreas, and lymphatic nodes, which are difficult to detect or route with ultrasonography. EUS is also used for therapeutic intervention in the patient and to take FNAC and biopsy.
  • Dilatation of Oesophageal/GI Stricture - The procedure is performed over a paediatric patient who has a narrowed oesophagus, pylorus (opening in the stomach) or any other part of the intestine. This procedure is performed by a highly trained professional with a specialised balloon (CRE) or bougie.
  • Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG)- It is one of the most effective and safest ways to provide liquids, food, and medications directly into the stomach of the patient who has trouble swallowing.
  • Oesophageal and Anorectal Manometry- It is the procedure performed by the doctors to find the cause of GERD, by placing a manometry probe in the oesophagus or in the rectum. The probe is attached with a sensor that helps in detecting diseases in patients having swallowing problems and constipation or faecal incontinence.
  • 24 hrs. Oesophageal pH Monitoring And Impedance Study- It is an outpatient procedure performed over a patient to measure the pH or amount of acid that flows into the oesophagus from the stomach, during a 24-hour period. It helps in detecting GERD or repeated aspiration. In this procedure, a specially designed probe (Gastric pH and impedance) attached with a sensor is placed in the oesophagus and kept for a fixed time. The doctor analyses the reading on the sensor to detect Gastroesophageal reflux disease and aspiration.
